NICK GABRIEL
ACTING
As an A.C.T. Resident Artist and member of the A.C.T. “core acting company”, Gabriel played many principal roles in mainstage productions, including Clov in ENDGAME opposite Tony Award winner Bill Irwin and Nihad in SCORCHED starring Emmy Award winner David Strathairn.
Carey Perloff, A.C.T. Artistic Director Emerita, wrote this about Gabriel in her book, Beautiful Chaos: "I had taught Nick ... and was drawn to his physical expressivity, his mordant sense of humor, his precise use of language, his huge, innocent eyes, and his Michael Chekhov approach to gesture and character. Even when paired with a consummate artist like Bill [Irwin], I knew he would hold his own."
Gabriel has also played principal roles in mainstage productions at several other major venues throughout the United States such as Milwaukee Rep, California Shakespeare Theater, New York’s Town Hall, South Coast Rep, and the Guthrie, to name a few. At La Jolla Playhouse, Gabriel played Zhao Dun in THE ORPHAN OF ZHAO starring Tony Award winner B.D. Wong and at Laguna Playhouse, he played Dr. Lyman Sanderson in HARVEY starring Emmy Award nominee French Stewart. In 2018, Gabriel acted several roles in IF ALL THE SKY WERE PAPER at Chapman’s Musco Center for the Performing Arts with Annette Bening and Ed Asner.
In addition to frequently performing the works of Shakespeare, Shaw, and Wilde, Gabriel has acted in countless workshops of new plays by writers such as Lucas Hnath, Ramiz Monsef, and Dave Molloy, among others. As an outspoken champion of playwrights, Gabriel has premiered many shows throughout his career. Notably, he appeared in the regional premiere of BEAST ON THE MOON by Richard Kalinoski, the original production of PORT CITY by Christopher Chen, and he originated the role of Warren in the West Coast premiere of ORDINARY DAYS by Adam Gwon.
Gabriel has also performed principal singing and speaking roles with the San Francisco Symphony, including the Soldier in THE SOLDIER'S TALE alongside Grammy Award winner Elvis Costello as the Narrator and Academy Award winner Malcolm McDowell as the Devil.
